LEMONADE LUCY

Lucy Ware Webb, wife of U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes, was born on August 28, 1831. She was the first First Lady to be called “First Lady,” and unlike her predecessors, she was extremely popular and well loved by the public.

Mrs. Hayes enjoyed informal parties and spared no effort to make official entertaining attractive. Though she was a temperance advocate and liquor was banned at the mansion during this administration, she was a very popular hostess.

She took criticism of her views in good humor with her famous nickname “Lemonade Lucy.”

Stop by on the 1 st and have some

Lemonade with us!!!

A Special Message from Jamie Vitko Director of Resident Care Services

The hot weather and rain are coming full force! You all know what that means…arthritis flare-ups! Get outside and get moving! Keep those joints moving and that blood flowing. Don’t forget about exercise every morning after breakfast at 9:30a.m. in the Main Lounge. Remember to see the med nurse if you need something for pain relief. Don’t be afraid to ask!! Also, drink a lot of fluids. That will help keep the blood flowing which helps joint stiffness.

NEWS from the
Maintenance Department

We would like to introduce Paul Durbin to the Atrium Family.

He became The Director of Maintenance on July 7, 2008. Paul graduated from UPJ with a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Technology.

Paul has been working very hard to keep up with the Department of Public Welfare regulations and safety codes.

Paul recently had an in-service with Air Management to go over all the air-conditioning and heating units in the facility. This will enable Paul to keep the facility in check with heating and cooling of the facility.

So if you see Paul in the hall introduce yourself and make him feel welcome.

Special Thank you to Cathedral Catholic Academy for their outstanding performance of “Godspell” on May 20th.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE PARTY!!!

Bon Worth Fashion Show

On Thursday, July 24 th The Atrium Ladies and Gentlemen were treated to a fashion show from Bon Worth clothing store. Bon Worth is a ladies clothing store located in the Galleria Mall on the first floor. Roxanne Thompson and Cindy Horner from Bon Worth, were the anchor ladies describing the attire the models were wearing. This was a great way for residents and family members to shop without leaving The Atrium!

The gentlemen especially enjoyed watching the models walk down the runway. We had a fabulous group of models, they are: Dotty Folk,

Lucy Lenick, Marie Jarabak Shirley Triplin, and Barb Balogh. Yvette Novak was the dressing room supervisor. For doing a great job the models were given a twenty percent discount for their next shopping trip.

Prizes were awarded and won by Lucy Lenick and Thelma Betterman won $25.00 gift certificates, Eileen Wagner and Dotty Folk received afghans, scarves were presented to Sophie Klotz,Vera Stutzman, and Jennie Patcher, and last but not least Maxine Rosenberger and Madeline Lesosky won dickies.

Certainly everyone had a wounderful time and lots of fun.

If you missed this one, watch for another fashion show in the fall.

Heritage Discovery Center 2008

On Thursday, July 31st, The Atrium Residents went on a field trip to the Johnstown Heritage Discovery Center.

About twelve residents attended this most informational experience. This was a great way to see how our ancestors formed the communities of Johnstown and surrounding areas.

This day we looked at our community and marveled at the workmanship put in to our historical buildings. Some of the bank, churches and other buildings are still with us and others are gone.

This was also a great way to see just how steel was made. We were astonished at the genius and ingenuity that our fore fathers put into the steel industry.

This region was a melting pot of nationalities with a main concern to have a future in America, to be free to worship and raise families. These great men and women worked the farms, coal mines and steel mills with pride for their community. They wanted a better future for their families.

And so here we are today wanting better for our families and taking pride in our community because the Johnstown area has been good to us all.
